Protecting Your Furniture from UV Light Damage

It is natural for wood hue to change over time, especially in the first year. In particular, cherry and mahogany will darken when they are exposed to UV light. This phenomenon will be most noticeable in the first year of use. Eventually the wood hue will even out and no longer darken dramatically.

At Frailey Woodworks we recommend keeping your piece out of direct sunlight, and to occasionally move objects that are placed on the top surface. For example, if you have a speaker or a lamp on the top surface, every week move the object to another location. This will prevent uneven fading or darkening of the wood surface.

The photo below shows where two circular objects, a vase and a lamp, were placed on the top surface of one of our mahogany consoles. The console was positioned near a window where lots of direct light was shining across the top surface.
